Weren't able to fly out east this year to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) or missed the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF)? Thankfully, the New West Film Society along with its community partners organized the New West Film Fest.

Happening over three days, the local festival presents current cutting-edge films and documentaries that encourage dialogue, educate, and entertain.

A first for NewWest FilmFest, the Short Film Showcase is an eclectic mix of International and Canadian short films. Immediately following the films will be ‘Short Films and Tall Drinks: A Meet and Greet for Film Lovers’ (The Hub, New West)

Saturday. Oct 22nd, 2016
2:00 pm: The Pristine Coast (Canadian, Local Filmmaker, English, Documentary)
New West filmmaker Scott Renyard links the crash of fish species on the Canadian coast to diseases from fish farms.

4:30 pm: Fractured Land (Canadian Documentary / Drama,English, Biography)
A young indigenous leader confronts big oil and the fractures in his community as he fights to reconcile traditional teachings with the law to protect the land.

7:00 pm: Captain Fantastic (International, Comedy / Drama, English, Fiction, Feature)
A father devoted to raising his six kids in the wild and with a rigorous physical and intellectual education is forced to leave his paradise and re-enter the urban world.
